Shawn Doyle is qualified as a lawyer in both Canada and the United States. He holds a law degree from Harvard Law School, as well as a business degree from the University of Victoria. He began his legal career in the Latin America Practice of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton before moving to Canada to join McCarthy Tétrault. He later became a partner of McCarthy Tétrault and is now the principal of that firm´s Latin America Practice.
Shawn also worked as general counsel of a large mining company, and then, for three years, as that company’s top executive officer in Chile.
In mid-2020, Shawn established Fidelity Law Corporation.
Shawn has considerable experience in carrying out corporate transactions, such as acquisition and divestiture transactions, as well as financing transactions (debt and equity finance). He is also skilled as a commercial lawyer, handling major procurement contracts, joint venture agreements, construction contracts and the like. Furthermore, given his experience as a corporate executive, his advice often transcends legal matters, so that clients rely on him as a sound advisor on corporate strategy, government relations and other matters.
Shawn has vast experience in international business. He has lived and worked in Asia, Europe, and Latin America. He has particularly strong ties to Latin America. He currently resides in Chile, a country he has lived in on several separate occasions (having first moved there in the early 1990s), and he has carried out work in most of the major countries of the region. He is a Spanish speaker, and he often advises on contracts that are written in Spanish.
With his background in the mining industry, Shawn’s practice emphasizes the needs of mining industry clients. Shawn is a past director of the Consejo Minero, the main mining industry trade association in Chile.
Shawn is married and is the father of two daughters. He and his family enjoy a variety of outdoor pursuits.
